During CES 2016, Kodak announced plans to revive its Super 8 camera format with a new camera of the same name that will combine analog and digital technologies. A working prototype of the new camera was shown during CES 2017, but the camera never saw the light of day. The first footage captured on the Kodak Super 8 and showcased at CES 2018 suggests that the project is nearing its final stages. Hand Grip Camera Strap
The Kodak Super 8 camera is a hybrid
that combines a 3.5-inch LCD with live-view and an 8mm film camera cartridge for video
recording. On the side of the screen is a command dial that is used to
navigate menus and to manually control the camera while shooting. The
Kodak Super 8 comes with a Ricoh 6mm F1.2 Detachable Lens and also supports
optional C-mount compatible lenses.
Super 8 camera also has a built-in SD card slot, HDMI connector and USB port. The audio is recorded onto the media card, and the cassette cartridge, when finished, is sent to Kodak. After the movie has been processed, Kodak sends it back to the customer and also uploads the footage to the cloud where the customer can upload the digitized version.
As noted by Cinema5D, Kodak also posted a podcast about a month ago in which the company talks about the current state of the project. No final release date or price has been announced yet, but the camera is expected to arrive this year for between $ 2,500 and $ 3,000.
